In 2004, I took a bold leap and launched my home staging business at a time when the
industry was barely a blip on the radar. Most people had never heard of home staging, and I
certainly didn’t have a playbook to follow. I dove in headfirst, spending countless hours
researching how others across the country were running their staging businesses, piecing
together my approach through trial, error, and a whole lot of determination.

After a year of learning the ropes, I realized I needed more structured guidance. I scoured the
industry for education, but options were slim—only three programs caught my eye. I took a
chance on one, hoping it would refine my skills. But to my surprise, much of their advice didn’t
align with what I’d already learned in the field, especially when it came to effective
communication and market positioning. I gave their methods a fair shot, but the results?
Lackluster at best.

That’s when I decided to lean into what made me, *me*. My career path had been anything but
conventional—marketing director, stay-at-home mom, clothing stylist, settlement negotiator for
an insurance company, and even an auctioneer. Each role taught me something unique, from
understanding people to mastering the art of persuasion.

But the real game-changer? My lifelong fascination with neuroscience. As a curious seven-
year-old, I’d sneak peeks at my dad’s college textbooks, hooked on questions like, “Why does
little Johnny do what he does?” Fast forward to the 1970s, when neuromarketing research
started gaining traction, and I knew I’d found my *thing*. I devoured studies from universities
and research sources, soaking up insights about how the brain influences decision-making.
Then, I had a lightbulb moment: what if I applied neuroscience to home staging? The result
was transformative. By blending these insights into my staging consultations, I created spaces
that weren’t just beautiful—they were *irresistibly marketable*. More than that, I developed a
unique way to talk about my business that set me apart from the competition. Let’s face it: if
you sound like everyone else, offer the same services, and charge the same rates, why should
anyone choose you?

This fusion of staging and neuroscience became my signature—what I now call *Neuro-
Staging™*. It’s been so well-received that I’m in the process of trademarking the term. In my
own business, it’s carved out a powerful niche. For the students I’ve mentored, it’s given them
a fresh, science-backed perspective to stand out in a crowded market. *Neuro-Staging™* is
where science and staging collide, helping others avoid the missteps I made early on so they
can build success faster and smarter.
